Check out what the no nonsense hair care genius had in store for us:
Tabatha, what's the biggest mistake most women make with their hair?
A lot of women do too much to their hair. They over color, over straighten, and over style their hair, which will compromise the integrity and condition and damaged hair doesn't look good on anyone. Another common mistake is unrealistic expectations, your hair may not be the same as your "ideal" hair but there are always alternatives to achieving the same feeling of the style you want, you may just need to realize it won't come naturally.
What are the key factors to keep in mind when choosing a new hairstyle/haircut?
Lifestyle and hair type. A lot of women pick a style based on a celebrity or a magazine look and don't think about the work that goes into achieving it, or the maintenance required. It is important to have realistic expectations. Consulting with a good stylist will help to see what you can do to achieve the look you want, if it will work for your face shape, hair type, and decide if it fits into your daily routine.
What about hair color? How can we tell if the shade will complement our features and skin tone?
There are many things to consider when finding the right shade and tone of color, like skin tone, eye color, and your underlying pigment. To help determine what undertones you have in your skin, one of the easiest ways to do this is to look at what colors of clothing work well on you and the tones of makeup that suit you best.
If you aren't sure, check the inside of your wrists. If your veins look blue, you are typically a cooler skin tone and if they look green, you are warmer. If you have a cooler complexion then cooler shades will typically work better for you like raven black, ash browns to blonde and cool beiges.
Warmer skin tones will typically look better with warm browns, golden blondes and auburns. If you aren't sure what the right shade and tone for you are, look for pictures of hair-colors that you and like and take them to your stylist who will help advise you.
