"Frozen" fans, rejoice! The winter favorite is coming to an arena near you for a live ice show. With 39 skaters in tow, "Frozen on Ice" will launch in September and tour across the US. No official name for the show has been released at this time, but we know Mickey and Minnie will host!
Production, which first takes place in Orlando, FL, requires nine tractor trailers and 20 snow machines. It has been rumored the Oscar-winning flick will transition into live stage musical, so this could be a test run.
Feld Entertainment Inc. announced the plans today and tickets have gone on sale. They plan to follow 98 percent of the original story line, and director Patty Vincent has been working close with the "Frozen" creative team.
"Their input has been extraordinarily helpful as we try to exceed the very high fan expectations," she told Playbill. "They helped us with Elsa's style of movement - balletic, vertical - and how it differs from Anna, who is more playful and horizontal."
"Our goal is to showcase these heartwarming characters in a way that allows the audience to cheer and sing along throughout this emotional journey," she added.
Producer Nicole Feld of Feld Entertainment has confidence in the show and has high expectations for sales.
"In our more than 30 years of producing Disney On Ice shows, Feld Entertainment has been waiting for a film like this," says producer Nicole Feld. "While it might seem obvious that Frozen is well suited for the ice, this Disney On Ice production will touch audiences emotionally through innovative show elements and world-class skating."
"Frozen" premiered last November and crossed the $1 billion mark in box office sales, in addition to winning two Academy Awards. It is the highest grossing animated film of all time.
