Bad news for "How I Met Your Mother" fans. While creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays wrote a spin-off of their original hit series, CBS chose NOT to order. But do not lose hope yet! According to reports they are now shopping around for other networks.
"How I Met Your Dad" seemed one of the most promising of this year's pilots, but CBS chief Nina Tassler explained at the 2014 Upfronts that it just won't do.
"There were elements on the pilot that didn't work out," she explained. "We tried to work out about redoing the pilot. That's not happening right now. Sometimes you run into these kind of issues and you hope they can resolve themselves in that time frame."
"I'm heartsick; we loved this brand and we love the producers but it didn't work out," Tassler added. "Repiloting was in the best interest of protecting the creative elements of the show."
"That was our position, not necessarily theirs."
The series would star Greta Gerwig and feature Meg Ryan as the narrator. It was rumored last week to already be ordered. Producer 20th Century Fox and "HIMYM" creators intend to find a home for their new sitcom.
One reporter at HitFix asked if the reasoning stemmed from the "disappointing" finale of the original (SPOILERS AHEAD).
"No, no," she insisted. "Absolutely not."
"How I Met Your Mother" showed Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor) telling his children the story of how he met their mother, Tracy. After nine seasons and countless theories, we learn she passed away six years earlier, and Ted winds up with long time love Robin (Cobie Smulders). This did not sit well with fans as most of the series showed why they can't be together.
Neil Patrick Harris, who played the womanizing Barney Stinson, recently said he loved the finale and thought things ended the way they should have.
