Big news for CBS pilot "How I Met Your Dad," the spinoff series of sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." Meg Ryan has officially been cast as the series' narrator!
The actress will provide voice for Future Sally, as Bob Saget voiced Future Ted alongside Josh Radnor's on-screen character. Greta Gerwig has already secured the on-screen Sally role.
Entertainment Weekly describes the character as "a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year."
They continue, "A break-up is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who are often too willing to give 'good' advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what's best for her."
Ryan shot to fame in 1989 for her breakout role in rom-com "When Harry Met Sally." More recent work includes starring in "Sleepless in Seattle" and a recurring character on "Web Therapy." CNN adds this will be her first primetime TV series regular role.
Gerwig, an indie actress, does voiceover on Adult Swim's "China II." Recent film work includes "Arthur" alongside Russell Brand and 2010's "Greenberg." The star will also assist with producing the series.
Though no official order has been placed, "HIMYD" is considered a front-runner based on the likes of the original. "How I Met Your Mother" graced the small screens in 2005 and finished a nine year run this year.
Original cast members included the likes of Jason Segal (Marshall Eriksen), Alyson Haningan (Lily Aldrin), Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky), and Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson).
