So by now you've probably already have guessed that we here at BWN are self-professed nail junkies. We love all things mani and pedis, so we decided to explore the benefits and drawbacks of rocking acrylics. Check out our top 10 list and see if you agree.
Pro: Durability. This is by far one of the best benefits. Once that acrylic is dry, you're talons are a force to be reckoned with. From soda cans, to mail packaging, these babies are hard to break.
Con: Maintenance. Getting your acrylics filled can be a bit of a hassle and money eater. This is especially true if your nails grow out fast. Be prepared to have a manicure fund on hand and ready.
Pro: Versatility. With acrylic nails you can pretty much change up the shape and length anytime you want. Go from square to round, to almond, and back again. A nail junkie needs these kind of options!
Con: Natural Nails Suffer. With acrylic on top of your nail bed, there's little room for your natural nails to do much long-lasting growing. You'll love that the acrylic protects and helps your nails underneath to grow super long, but you'll be bummed when you see they're paper thin and ready to break once the acrylic comes off.
Pro: Creativity. You can do whatever you want with acrylics! Be as outrageous with the length, color, size, shapes, finishes, and even accessories. There's not limit to what you can create with them.
Con: Breaks are Needed. You gotta take breaks from wearing acrylics every once in a while. Like anything else, let your natural nails breath and try not to get addicted to these nails for too long.
Pro: Perfection. Sure they are artificial, but when done right, no one can tell that your acrylics are not your own. The nails are super customizable, and when filed down to the right width and thickness, it's hard to spot where your natural nail ends and where the acrylic begins.
Con: The Chemical Smell. If you've ever been to a nail salon and wondered why the technicians all wear masks, it's because no one should be inhaling this stuff for long. The chemicals can do a number on your nails if you don't give them a break, so stories of women getting headaches or finding the smell unbearable are no surprise.
Pro: Uniformity. When you want all your nails to look the same, but some just grow totally different than others, acrylics can help create gorgeous consistency. No one is the wiser to the differences anymore, including you!
Con: Clean with Attention to Detail. One of the worst things you can do when you wear acrylic nails is forget to clean your hands thoroughly. You will be surprised at just how much stuff can get aught underneath these things, so be sure to wash around and under your acrylic nail bed with a little extra elbow grease.
