"Game of Thrones" season 4 episode 2, "The Lion and the Rose" proved to be a memorable one.
On April 13th, we said goodbye to one the show's most hated characters and if you have not seen Sunday night's episode we suggest you stop reading now.
Cast member Jack Gleeson appeared in his last episode as his character King Joffrey was killed off the series over the weekend, according to Us Weekly.
King Joffrey had a horrible ending and choked to death at his own wedding feast while his new bride Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), mother Cersei (Lena Headey) and hundreds of wedding guests looked on in horror but let's face it some of the attendees were delighted.
The Irish actor Gleeson, 21, spoke to Entertainment Weekly , about his final run on the show.
He explained, "It's reliving, in a way," adding, "You want to do the scene and character justice. It's a complicated scene; I've never had a death on screen before.
"You want it to look believable - the choking and the coughing . . . It was fun in the end, but kind of stressful to be so focused, but acting like you're completely unfocused. Difficult, but exciting."
The actor admitted that he was not surprised by Joffrey's death seeing as he "knew from Day 1" about Joffrey's end, read George R.R. Martin's first book and "Googled the character summaries . . . I knew it was coming."
Jack Gleeson reflected on how fans of the show will take Joffrey's death. He confessed, "There will be a delight that the person tormenting their favorite characters is gone, but I would like to think there's a certain sadness at the loss of the delight people take in hating a character like Joffrey."
However, fans of Joffrey shouldn't expect to see Jack Gleeson acting in a new project anytime soon.
In previous interviews the young HBO star revealed he intends on retiring from acting after his "Game of Thrones" run has wrapped up.
He explained, "I've been acting since age 8. I just stopped enjoying it as much as I used to."
The actor added, "Up until now [acting] was always something I did for recreation with my friends, or in the summer for some fun. I enjoyed it.
"When you make a living from something, it changes your relationship with it. It's not like I hate it, it's just not what I want to do."
