"Fast & Furious" actress, Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in the forthcoming "Batman-Superman" movie. The newcomer will star alongside Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the decision to invite Gadot to join the highly anticipated film started off as a rumor, but was confirmed on Wednesday.
Wonder Woman is a "larger-than-life" character and style icon who has existed for more than 70 years, according to EW. Though a few attempts have been made to make a movie and television show about the female superhero, nothing had ever materialized until now.
But the character, like Gadot, is mysterious to many fans. Wonder Woman's comical origins have changed constantly, without any real story every having been nailed down about her.
Stepping in the role, Gadot may have a lot to prove. The Isreali actress, best known for playing Gisele in the "Fast & Furious" films, will have large shoes to fill by becoming the fan favorite character.
The movie's director, Zack Snyder believes that the newcomer will live up to the hype.
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe," said Snyder. "Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
Whispers have gone around that Gina Carano would play Wonder Woman. But with Gadot's casting, it's clear that those rumors were just speculation.
The masterminds behind the "Man of Steel" sequel may even include Martian Manhunter in the film, reported EW.
