"Sherlock" season 3 is rumored to have a January 2014 release date however, that's not going to stop the cast and crew from the hit show from dishing out juicy spoilers.
In the latest leak one of the writers of the hit BBC drama series, Steve Thompson, revealed that he pitched to Sherlock himself, aka Benedict Cumberbatch the idea of being written out of the series, according to Digital Journal.
In a recent interview, Thompson said, "I wanted [...] to do an entire episode without Benedict in it at all."
Thompson is one of the original writers of the show who has been with "Sherlock" since it aired back in 2011. Thompson has written three episodes for the show, one for each of the three seasons so far.
When he was asked whether there was anything he wanted to do in the show that didn't make it through the discussion process he revealed his idea.
Thompson said, "I wanted to do [an episode about] young Sherlock."
"I wanted him to be nine [...] I was just trying to think of a way of surprising everyone."
He added, "'This is the most surprising thing possible: Ben's not going to be in it!' I told them. I must've been drunk or something. Benedict's amazing; how could I suggest it?"
However his fellow writers Steven Moffatt and Mark Gatiss said, "You know what? I think we probably won't do that."
Aside from his brief desire to write Benedict Cumberbatch off the show Thompson has received much praise for his work on the series. Especially "The Reichenbach Fall" episode in the season 2 finale that left viewers speculating as to how Holmes could have survived the fatal fall.
"How did he survive the fall?" Freeman said during an interview with Radio Times.
"All the clues were on screen. It's not going to be a cheat - everything that we saw on that final episode offers hints as to how he did it."
