It's been over a month since the passing of Cory Monteith, and the tragedy is still weighing heavy on the minds of "Glee" co-stars and show creator Ryan Murphy.
In a recent interview, Murphy said for the memorial episode, they have decided that Monteith's character Finn Hudson's cause of death will not be drugs, that he will not die of an overdose, as previously stated.
"There were a lot of things that we had to decide [for the memorial episode]," the Emmy-winning director explained, according to US Weekly. "At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose -- that was something we had considered. But we have decided that we're not going to have him pass from that."
Murphy plans for the episode to be a "celebration of that character's life" -- a look at how Finn lived, rather than how he died. So the episode may not reveal a cause of death. It is also a way to celebrate Monteith's life rather than his death.
"That might be weird for some people," Murphy said, "but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way."
Murphy also explained how hard it's been on set without him around.
"The cast and crew have had solace in being together," he said. "There's been tears on set. It's been hard for a lot of people. But the really difficult thing is coming. We start shooting the memorial episode this week. We're just now finishing it, and at the end of the week we'll send it to [the studio 20th Century Fox Television] to get their approvals."
"I think it turned out to be a lovely tribute, and it's a very heartfelt look at how young people grieve," he added. "After that, we're going to take two weeks or three weeks down to get our heads together because it's been a really hard thing to write. We loved Cory and we loved Finn and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them around."
Monteith, 31, died of a drug overdose on July 13 in his hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, Canada.
Because of his death, Fox has pushed back the premiere of Season 5 to September 26.
