This may seem like a no-brainer, but there are some effective and not so effective ways to ensure skin stays hydrated. Of course you know moisturizing skin is key to any healthy beauty regimen, but are you doing it right? Read over these quick tips and take your skin's nourishment up a notch.
Do use more than one moisturizer. This tip will likely be a favorite among our fellow beauty junkies, but yes, it is perfectly fine to have more than one moisturizer. Having a lotion for your face, one for your body, and one for the eye area is best.
Don't moisturize skin when it's dry. Skin is best hydrated when it is damp. Right after you come it of the shower, your skin's pores are open, ready to drink in moisture for supple skin. Use this time to lock the benefits of your lotion and seal the softness into skin.
Do choose the moisturizer that's right for you. Know your skin and hydrate accordingly. Is your skin dry, sensitive, oily, or a combination of these? Customize your moisturizer to suit your needs. Opt for fragrance-free for sensitive skin, a heavier cream for dry skin, and oil-free or non-comedogenic formulas for oily skin.
Don't skip on the SPF. You're not protecting skin if your moisturizer doesn't contain at least a level of SPF 15 to help prevent harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun. No matter what the season, keep this sunny little tip in mind.
Do use fragranced moisturizer. Instead of piling on the perfume, the delicious scent from your favorite lotion is another great option that will last way longer and fragrance you from head to toe.
Don't forget about the eyes. Remember all skin areas on the body are not created equal. Skin around the eyes is super sensitive, so you'll need a special moisturizer that's designed to treat the eye area. Formulas with Vitamin K are ideal.
