Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and their band of brothers gained momentum and surprised fans with a high-caliber performance in the American Airlines arena. James' energetic, aggressive play topped anything that the Spurs were able to do in getting down the stretch, into the paint and scoring. It was almost to the point that Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and company looked shell-shocked and baffled by the Heat's domination.
Miami took over in the third and fourth quarters, going on a shooting spree that seemed to leave the Spurs powerless and at the brink of collapse. James' team turned a one-point deficit into a masterpiece of a major 33-5 lead.
Mario Chalmers had a message at midcourt that got James inspired. "I felt like we had them on the ropes at the time," the Heat guard said. "I told [Lebron,] 'Let's go for the kill.' He said, 'Im with you.'"
They got a game going that was so in-sync and commanding that it was a blowout, according to CBS Sports. James missed 10 of 13 shots through three quarters, but cleaned up with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three blocks while shooting 7 of 17 from the field.
Chalmers had 19 points.
Miami made 10 of 19 3-pointers, with a great supporting cast with Ray Allen's 13 points and Chris Bosh's 12 points and 10 rebounds. James was grateful to get the much-needed help off the bench.
"Honestly, for me, when I was struggling offensively, my teammates continued to keep it in range," he said. "And we even had a lead one point, especially late in the second quarter when we made that run and I was struggling a bit myself."
The Spurs' leaders included Danny Green, who made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, and Parker with 13 points.
Game 3 is on Tuesday night on ABC.
