Tom Bachik, nail artist to the stars, likes to create memorable nails that match a celebrity's personality rather than her public image.
Having taken care of the cuticles of today's favorite starlets from Zooey Deschanel to Jennifer Lopez, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to finger art. Sitting down with PopSugar, he dished how Lopez loves bling and sparkling tips while Anne Hathaway loves simple, chic and elegant nails. Apparently, Deschanel goes literal, putting specific ideas and pictures on her nails.
In perfecting eye-popping looks, it is a collaborative effort between artist and celebrity, he said. But Bachik has to always stay on trend.
So wanna know some of spring's hottest ideas?
Well, Bachik said 3-D art and using pastels from coral to melon shades is very big at the moment. Shorter, softer nails are what you want to aim for this spring, he added. To start, shape the nail and paint on a color palette that matches your personality. And using nail appliques trims the fat, sort of speak, in creating an easy look.
The trick is to find appliques that are one size larger than your nails. When applying it, slide it back so it touches up against the cuticles, pull it out toward the tip, stretch over the nail and press down on both sides. Then, use a nail file in a downward motion to cut off any excess.
