The hottest trend men can flaunt this season is the geography teacher look. The trend has come as a shocker with numerous people including celebrities swearing by clothes that personify geek-chic.
Sales of outfits like tweed blazers with elbow patches, geeky sweaters in darker shades and corduroy trousers, typical of a teacher’s ensemble, have been skyrocketing. The trend has made numerous runway appearances during shows by iconic brands like Prada and Burberry.
“Sit up at the back and pay attention – Geography teacher chic seems to be the main driving force for sales over the past few months,” Lizzie Singleton, spokesperson for Debenhams, an international, multi-channel brand told in a press statement. “After decades of being regarded as the epitome of frump, this unique dress sense has suddenly shot to the top of the class.”
The style has been sported by A-listers like Prince William and Prince Harry, Jarvis Cocker, Tinie Tempah, TV presenter Rick Edwards and model David Gandy.
“Seeing the dress styles favoured by your old Geography teacher suddenly being paraded along the latest catwalks has created a grade 10 earthquake in the fashion world,” Singleton added. “The appearance of old fashioned leather elbow pads alone is a major seismic event – everyone thought they had disappeared during the last Ice Age.”
And while the sudden reemergence of the look is surprising we must admit that the surprise is a pleasant one. The geek chic style looks very classy and stylish especially accessorized with dark rimmed reading glasses and a cross body bag.
And it’s just not men who can flaunt the geography teacher look. Debenhams also has a similar line for women. These outfits are mostly seen on singer Taylor Swift and model Alexa Chung.
