French fashion houses Dior and Chanel are all geared up to showcase their Resort Collection after successful fall shows. Dior and its creative director Raf Simons will be jet setting to Monaco, May 18, and Chanel with Karl Lagerfeld will head to Singapore, May 9, for the cruise collection, according to WWD.
Simons made quite an impression when he presented his fall/winter collection with his clean cuts and creative designs. The designer proved that darker shades do not necessarily have to be boring if incorporated with right accessories and a little bit of innovation. We wonder if the resort collection to will be as chic as the fall designs.
On the other hand, Lagerfeld is known to pick out exotic locations to showcase Chanel's resort collection. The designer showcased the spring 2012 resort collection in Versailles, France. His earlier choices were Venice, Moscow and Scotland.
Lagerfeld's designs are also mostly based on the climatic conditions of the locales he picks out. When he showcased the collection in Versailles, Lagerfeld evidently synced his designs to the summer temperatures in the city.
The months of April-September are relatively hot and the brand featured pieces like mini-skirts, short ball gowns, jeans, summery floral dresses, capris, etc. One of the male models was even seen walking the ramp with a watering can!.
For the resort show in Scotland, the collection included warm jackets and kilt like skirts, fit for the cold Scottish weather.
So what is the collection going to be like? Singapore is the hottest in April and May so maybe a fully tropical collection and also Chanel has a strong retail presence there with three stores so maybe a bit of playing to the gallery?
Guess we will have to wait and watch.
