Showcasing the ready to wear Fall/Winter Collection, March 1, French fashion house Christian Dior made it clear that black and white doesn't necessarily have to be boring if incorporated with a bit of innovation.
The creative director of the brand, Raf Simons, might have stuck to Dior's legacy of elegance but did it a bit differently. And no one's complaining. Simons dressed his models in simple chic shades of black, white and ivory. What brought the designs together was the quirky and colorful painting like prints on the dresses.
A model walked the runway in a simple white off the shoulder dress that had an overlapping flap on the left hip. The dress was saved from being just a simple white dress by the modern edge brought to it with a colorful flower embroidered on the flap.
Another white dress had a black and white painting of a woman's face placed next to colorful flowers on the bust region.
Most of the dresses were printed with colorful pictures that lent a sense of modernity to the creations. Black dresses came with pictures in striking eye catching colors that stood out against the plain black background.
Dior's show also featured elegant formal wear like plain black skirts paired with large collared ivory tops and pointy heels. It also showcased form fitting blazers and overcoats in dark shades perfect for the chill. Paired with loose flowy pants, these outfits made perfect office wear for the season.
The show also featured formal skinny trousers paired with tops with floral detailing at the chest, leather dresses and fur lined coats.
The show that the audience was already raving about picked up a higher tempo when a model stepped onto the runway in a stunning flared black dress paired with a striking red overcoat.
Another Dior creation worth mentioning was a black dress with blue floral patterns on the torso and a similar pattern below the hip in beige.
Dior's show was one of the best showcased so far in the Paris Fashion Week. With elegance and sophistication, these dresses are bound to make appearances on the red carpet in coming months, probably on actress Marion Cotillard and model Olivia Palermo who were seen in the front row.
