Country singer Mindy McCready, 37, was found dead at her home in Arkansas Feb. 17. The singer is said to have committed suicide and the neighbors confirmed hearing gunshots. She is survived by two sons, Zander, 6 and Zayne, who is 10 months old.
Marty Moss, the Cleburne County sheriff verified the incident and said that they received a call about the incident and went to the songstress' house where they found her body. "Ms. McCready is deceased from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," he told USA Today.
McCready's suicide comes on the heels of the mid-January death of her boyfriend, David Wilson. He was the father of her younger son. The 37-year-old singer was a suspect in the presumed murder of her boyfriend, which was later found to be a suicide. Wilson, it was reported later, had shot himself. This turmoil in her personal life is said to be the reason behind this extreme step.
The singer seemed to be having a hard time coping with Wilson's death and in January she tweeted, "Things have been hectic. But I'm still here."
In the past too McCready has undergone treatment for alcohol abuse as well as for the state of her mental health. She has made several trips to rehab and also attempted suicide in 2005 and in 2008.
Soon after the news of the singer's death spread, Twitter was flooded with condolence messages from celebs and fans.
"Just got a call from Mindy McCready's best friend that she shot and killed herself this evening. My heart breaks for her two boys," Nashville television reporter Stacy McCloud posted.
"I grew up listening to Mindy McCready ...so sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them," tweeted country singer/actress Carrie Underwood.
