'Planes' Disney animated movie will take place in the world revolving around Pixars 'Cars,' following a young crop-duster named Dusty Crophopper attempt to complete an around-the-world race. The film was originally slated to be released on DVD and Blue-ray but instead became a theatrical film.
The 'Cars' spin-off will feature cast of planes and jets. Actor Jon Cryer from Two and a Half Men will be the voice of the main animated charter Dusty Crophopper. Other voice actors include Carlos Alazraqui, as El Chupacabra, Brad Garret, from Everyone Loves Raymond, as Chug and Stacy Keach as Skipper. This will be the first film released by Disney Toon Studios since Pooh's Heffalump Movie nearly eight years ago in 2005.
The new film is a spin-off of the popular animated adventure film 'Cars' which opened in June 2006. Cars grossed over $244 million and was ranked number one at its box office opening. The film went on to gross $461 million world and was the third highest-grossing animated film of 2006. The film won many awards including Grammy award for the song "Our Town," and Oscar nomination for Best Animated feature, and won Golden Globe Award for Best Animated feature Film.
Planes is set to be released theatrically by Disney on August 9, 2013, placing it against Elysium and We're the Millers.
