Caffeine, also known as one of the main constituents of coffee, is traditionally consumed as a stimulant to retain energy, alertness, and physical performance.
But as more studies about it surface, this ingredient's purpose also expanded in the beauty world.
In particular, it was initially infused in skincare products due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help aesthetes depuff their faces, and decrease redness and the visibility of fine lines, according to the health magazine.

But recently, researchers also revealed its promising effect on the hair care industry — budding as one way to prevent both men's and women's top concern – hair loss.
Dr. Gary Linkov, a New York City-based hair restoration expert who's also the founder of Feel Confident detailed caffeine's benefits, along with a certified trichologist, Penny James in an article released by InStyle.
One of its significance is that it works as a stimulant for the scalp to kick the growth of the locks.
"(It) can lead to an increase of growth factors and nutrients (like oxygen) being recruited to the hair follicle and kicking the growth cycle into gear," said Dr. Linkov.
Next, caffeine can also suppress the production of dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that is responsible for hair loss or thinning.
Dr. Linkow confirms that drinking coffee can help the tresses once its caffeine content reaches the hair follicles, but both he and James agreed that it would be faster to apply it as a topical treatment.
A 0.2 percent caffeine can increase the hair strands in its growth phase nearly as much as minoxidil, one of the few approved over-the-counter hair loss medications, as per a study in 2017.
Despite skepticism, the experts advise beauty lovers to still consult professionals and try this treatment with minimal expectations.
"It’s important with hair support to be consistent to see results," Linkov added.
