Kate Winslet, who became globally known as the Rose of "Titanic," confessed the "appalling" criticism she faced regarding her weight and appearance after the box-office hit 1997 film.
Recently, the 49-year-old award-winning actress was featured on CBS's "60 Minutes." Here, she answered questions about how she debuted as an actress and dished on the roles she portrayed throughout her career.
When the interviewer mentioned "Titanic," it was noticeable how Kate's expression showed reservation yet she bravely answered her questions, specifically about the criticism she suffered due to the unreasonable beauty standards back then.
"It's absolutely appalling. What kind of a person must they be to do something like that to a young actress who’s just trying to figure it out?"
In a video coverage from 1998, the actress who was 20 at the time attended the Golden Globes' red carpet side by side with Leonardo DiCaprio, the male lead of the film.
The host harshly commented on Kate's look in a white & black ensemble claiming she was "a little melted and poured" into the dress and suggested that she should have worn a "two sizes larger" 'fit. She mentioned that even her face was hated at the time for having wrinkles and not wearing makeup.
This criticism continued when the viral clip of Jack's death from "Titanic" created a debate that he could have fit in the wooden furniture along with Rose if Kate "wasn't as big as she is."

Although Kate was never annoyed by the debate, she once called out reporters and said:
"I let them have it. I said, ‘I hope this haunts you."
That was one of her proudest moments and shed tears as she explained:
"It was a great moment because it wasn’t just for me. It was for all those people who were subjected to that level of harassment. It was horrific, it was really bad."
Shockingly, her fat-shaming experience began when she enrolled at an acting academy at the age of 11 where she was directly told by a teacher that she would have to settle for "fat girl parts" due to her body.
That day on, Winslet promised herself to prove the teacher wrong, saying, "I was never even fat. It made me think, 'I'll just show you — just quietly."
