In an interview, the "Catwoman" star shared her frustrations about the beauty standard, then revealed her mission to re-define aging.
In the entertainment industry, Halle Berry is truly one of the most beautiful celebrities of all time.
She started her career as a model and beauty queen in the 80s when she was in her teens until she also entered the film industry in the 90s, and became an award-winning actress.
Halle, who is two years away from being 60 years old then opened up that regardless of her long list of accolades, her whole identity is being reduced to her looks. She said;
"I have longed for someone to say something to me other than 'Oh gosh you're so pretty!', I would've longed to hear other words. I know I'm more than this."
Indeed, she achieved multiple records in the 2000s other than being a "pretty face." At that time, she was one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood and also earned the title of the first African-American woman to win Best Actress at the Academy Award. All of this — thanks to her top-notch skills.
Berry continued to convey disappointment by pointing out the difference between aging men versus women and added:
"Men get sexy, they get grey hair, they're silver foxes. (But) We're just old, and we're haggard."
Initially, she was also scared of getting older, even trying to defy it by stopping her menopause. But eventually, she embraced getting old naturally by joining movements related to it.
In May, she was among those who fought for the legislation allowing a $ 275 million allocation for menopause research and education. She then launched Respin, a wellness brand targetting midlife women to help them embrace the natural transition and the eternal beauty that comes with it.
