Body oils are thicker than lotions.

One thing that consumers should consider is its feeling when applied to the skin. Compared to the lightweight and thinner formula of water-based lotions, body oils are thicker since it's made up of oil.

However, while lotions can prevent the skin from drying, oil creates its own outer layer's barrier which better helps moisture to lock in the skin.

Body oils are not suitable for dry and oily skin.

According to Healthline, applying body oil to dry skin "may be counterproductive." This is because oils contain fatty substances such as lipids which fill up the cracked layer of the skin to make it softer. During this process, the moisture that needed to be let out might be trapped as well.

It also stated that it might not be a good option for those with oily skin and acne as it will contribute to the clogging of pores and lead to a breakout.
