Since there are so many different types of skincare products, it can get tricky to understand the differences between products. Micellar water and toner are sometimes categorized as similar, but they couldn't be more different. They are used for entirely different things, and we're here to help you figure out whether you need one or both of them in your routine.

However, some brands, such as Furtuna Skin, have combined the benefits of both micellar water and toner into one multi-use product, which is sure to cut your routine down by a few minutes.

Let's break down the differences between micellar water and tone.

Micellar Water

Micellar water is a multi-tasking product that can be used to remove makeup, cleanse the face, and remove dirt and oil. For those with sensitive skin, this is a great thing to have in your skincare routine because it's a bit more gentle than your everyday cleanser.

According to Bioderma, micelles attract impurities and can attach them to cotton wool. It's also worth noting that when you apply this, you do not need to wash your face afterward because water is one of the key ingredients.

Toner

Toner is typically used as a second step in a skincare routine after cleansing. So, in theory, you can use a toner after cleansing your face with micellar water.

Toner can also help remove what your cleanser didn't. In fact, according to Furtuna Skin, toners were created to help get rid of soap scum that would mess up your skin's pH balance. The original toners would fix the pH of your skin and remove the stickiness from the soap scum.

A toner is used to help balance the skin after cleansing. Toner also tightens pores and helps with other skin issues you might have. One of the biggest differences between toner and micellar water is that toners are often made with harsher ingredients.
