The demand for chrome nails has left some nail salons booked from opening to closing hours. But because it is the latest trend in nail art, there is nothing that can keep us from this new design, even if it means learning how to do it ourselves.
Nail trends started to flourish way back in the 1960s when color palettes and nail options began expanding. By the 1990s, countless celebrities were frequently spotted with metallic nail polish.
This time, chrome nails are the new flashy trend, and we just can't seem to get enough of them.
Since the advent of nail polish, various ways of applying color to nails have been popping up left and right. There was the classic brush, stickers, decals, stencils, stamps, and who could forget sponges?
This time, it's powder -- metallic powder to be exact. Using this powder will result in a smooth, reflective, and mirrored nail finish.
Models, actors, and performers are seen sporting chrome nails at events, as shown in media footage. As a result, we ran to our friendly neighborhood salon to get those eye-catching nails, too. But, alas, the salons are fully booked, so we resort to doing them ourselves.
From our searches, we found several ways to achieve chrome nails at home. Check them out below.
Metallic Powder
Metallic powder is available in most stores and salons in various colors, but the bestsellers are silver, gold, and rose gold.
To achieve chrome nails with metallic powder, you'll need to apply a base coat, color, and non-wipe top coat. Although you can choose and experiment with any base color imaginable, experts recommend using black as it complements the metallic powder.
Apply metallic powder using a cosmetic sponge after your non-wipe top coat. Buff the sponge onto your nail until your desired shine is achieved. Finish off with a colorless top coat.
Some of our metallic powder brand favorites are Kiara Sky for the silvers and golds, NuGenesis for the colors, and Daily Charme for the holographic hues.
Nail Lacquer
As you can tell, using powders on nails can get tricky. Experts recommend nail lacquers or polishes to easily get that chrome look at home. Orly's Fluidity and Dynamism can give you that smooth silver and rose gold look.
Gel Nails
If you want to keep your chrome look for a longer period, choose gel nails. The shimmer on The Manicure Company's Chrome Cocktail can last up to three weeks.
Press-On Nails
In a rush but can't resist the allure of chrome nails? Specialty nail brands such as Quickies, Olive and June, and Clutch Nails have you covered. These press-on nail products are easy to find and easy to apply. Just make sure your nails are clean from oils and dust.
Chrome Nails and Nail Art
With these options in mind, achieving chrome nails is made possible even when your salon is full. You can go with full-on chrome on your whole nail bed or maybe just a touch of chrome for nail art; the shiny choice is yours!
