TikTok trends in makeup are ever-evolving, driven by the creativity of artists and influencers on social media. One beauty trend that has gained traction on the platform is "cloud skin" makeup.

Coined by makeup artist and MAC Cosmetics global senior artist Dominic Skinner, the cloud skin makeup look involves achieving a cross between matte and dewy skin by combining products with different textures for a natural glow.

Even though cloud skin only became a trend on TikTok over the past year, makeup artists have been using similar techniques for years on the red carpet to give stars a natural look.

But how exactly does the cloud skin trend work? Let's take a look.

Soft, Matte Skin

The best way to start with the cloud skin look is by preparing your skin with a hydrating moisturizer or primer base to keep the skin glowing underneath.

After prepping your skin, it's time to apply your foundation. Make sure to choose a skin tint or lightweight foundation with a radiant finish.

To achieve a more natural finish, it's recommended to use a fluffy brush for application.

One base product recommended for the cloud skin look is the Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint, a tinted moisturizer with light coverage that provides a natural, blurred finish.

Blush and Bronzer

Another makeup tip for the cloud skin trend is to apply a cream or semi-matte blush and bronzer and blend them well into your skin for a flawless, natural finish.

The point of this trend is to have a natural glow on a soft base, so make sure you lightly apply bronzer and blush on the cheeks.

If you want shimmer, you can lightly apply some transparent or sheer highlighter on the cheeks to give you an instant glow.

Powder

The final tip for the cloud skin trend is to use a translucent powder as a finishing touch to give your skin a soft, matte finish.

When it comes to powder, make sure to apply only a small amount and only on areas where it's needed, such as your T-zone.

For the cloud skin trend, applying a light powder is necessary, as it will give those with combination and oily skin a less shiny appearance.

One translucent powder recommended for this look is the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, which can provide 16 hours of shine-free makeup.
