Recent runway shows, like Kim Shui’s Fall 2023 collection, featured bold ombré lips in black and red, stealing the spotlight and confirming the trend's undeniable presence.

Unlike the simple dark liner and light lipstick combo in the '90s, the modernized version features a seamless-looking ombré.

Mastering the art: achieving the perfect ombré lip

According to New York-based makeup artist Andrea DiSabatino, the first step is to prepare your lips by exfoliating and hydrating them for a smooth canvas, Allure reported. Begin with a gentle lip scrub followed by a hydrating balm to keep your lips soft and enhance the color's longevity.

Instead of starting with lip lining, Holm applies two slightly different shades of lipstick from the same color family before defining the lips. This method aids in seamlessly blending the ombré lip, according to the Los Angeles-based makeup artist.

Start by tapping the lightest shade in the center of your lips and applying the darker shade from the middle to just below the lip edges. Gently tap the area where the shades meet with your finger or a lip brush for a soft blend.
