Jemima Kirke revealed that she had an abortion without the use of anesthesia, New York Post has learned.

In a public service announcement video of Center for Reproductive Rights' campaign for women's health, the 29-year-old actress shared the reason why she chose to undergo the procedure in 2007.

"I wasn't sure that I wanted to be attached to this person for the rest of my life," Kirke said. "My life was not conducive to raising a healthy, happy child. I just didn't feel it was fair."

The Teen Vogue model, who was then studying at Rhode Island School of Design, decided to terminate her pregnancy while in college.

The British actress couldn't admit to her mother that she was pregnant, so she had to pay for the procedure using her own money, US Weekly reported.

"I did have to empty my checking account -- what I had in there -- and get some from my boyfriend," she explained. "I realized if I didn't take the anesthesia, I would be able to afford to do this."

"And the anesthesia wasn't that much more, but when you're scrounging for however many hundreds of dollars, it is a lot," she added. "I didn't have it all."

Kirke didn't want other women to go through the same experience. She desires for women empowerment and believes that women should openly discuss about reproductive issues, according to Daily News.

"I still see shame and embarrassment around terminating pregnancies," she said. "So I have always been open about my stories. Always shared them, especially with other women."

Kirke married Michael Mosberg in 2009. She has an 8-year-old stepdaughter, a  4-year-old daughter named Rafaella and a 2-year-old son named Memphis.

The celebrity mom said that she's already expecting her daughters' issues with self-esteem, their bodies and the whole luggage that comes with being a woman.

"I would love if when they're older and they're in their teens or in their 20s -- that the political issues surrounding their body were not there anymore. That they have one less thing to battle around their bodies," Kirke quipped.

Kirke, together with Padma Lakshmi, Mark Ruffalo and Dee Dee Bridgewater, joins the Draw the Line campaign for women's health.

Kirke stars in HBO's "Girls," with Lena Dunham and Allison Williams.
