Lex Luthor is considered as one of the most important characters in the upcoming "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice." And "Social Network" actor Jesse Eisenberg has just landed the role of Superman's infamous rival.
Many fans flinched when Eisenberg was initially cast for the villain role in the upcoming "Superman" movie. However, the 32-year-old star is a phenomenal actor who starred in some blockbuster films like "The Double" and "Now You See Me." According to Forbes, his performances clearly demonstrate why he's suited to play Luthor.
Although details on the upcoming "Superman" installment are very limited, director Zack Snyder recently gave a justification why Eisenberg is the best fit to portray the character.
"He's not any of the Lexes you've seen, that's for sure," Snyder said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another to himself. And bald, of course."
"Our Lex is disarming and he's not fake," Snyder added. "He says what he believes and he says what's on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it's all there."
Eisenberg, who will play the super villain going against the "Man of Steel," already has an advantage after portraying a morally challenged billionaire in "The Social Network." But Screen Rant stated Eisenberg's unexpected role, as the intelligent and self-motivated millionaire who's willing to do the extremes to achieve his goal, is a "potentially risky one."
While the "Adventureland" star may not be the name that comes first into people's minds as Superman's megalomaniac rival, he did show that he is fit to play the character in one of the teasers for the upcoming film. On the Instagram account of the film's set photographer Clay Enos, a black and white photo of a bald, cold-eyed Eisenberg proved he can be the movie's villainous character.
So, why is Eisenberg's character so important in the movie? Badass Digest revealed that the confrontation between the two super heroes, Superman and Batman, will apparently take place because of Luthor.
Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne are reprising their roles in the new "Superman" flick. On the other hand, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher and Jason Samoa have been cast as Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman, respectively.
