"Supergirl" recently added "True Blood" alum Mehcad Brooks to its growing cast, but which iconic DC Comics role will he be taking on?
Just days after announcing "Glee" alum Melissa Benoist scored the role of titular character Supergirl, showrunners revealed that Brooks will be playing James "Jimmy" Olsen," reports E! News.
James is a photographer at CatCo, the media company where Kara, Supergirl's alter-ego, is employed.
No details about the "Necessary Roughness" alum's character has been revealed except that James has recently been living and working in National City. However, the reason behind this remains a secret.
Meanwhile, Benoist recently took to Twitter to share her excitement about landing the lead role in the upcoming superhero series.
"I wish there was a superhero emoji," she tweeted.
In this version of Supergirl starring the "Whiplash" actress, Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Kara Danvers, Superman's cousin from Krypton, has been hiding her powers while attempting to live a normal life on Earth. However, at the age of 24, she decides to stop suppressing her abilities and use her powers for the good of mankind.
CBS head Nina Tassler talked about "Supergirl" during a TCA press tour, saying: "We're watching an evolution with regard to the way superhero characters are portrayed. There's a humanity, they're flawed, there's a relatability."
"I think for our network, what we responded to was her humanity...the other characters on the show as well. These are all things that made her imminently relatable and made the story exciting, made it an adventure," she continued, via E! News.
Laura Vandervoort took on the role of Supergirl on "Smallville," while Helen Slater played the character in a 1984 film.
There's no hint yet as to which actresses will be taking on the roles of Cat Grant, Kara's boss, and Alex Danvers, Kara's foster sister but fans are surely excited to find out.
