A Nirvana bootleg recorded 25 years ago has surfaced online for the first time, according to a report by Vice's Noisey.
The small show happened on Jan. 12, 1990 at the Satyricon in Portland, Ore., where vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Kurt Cobain reportedly met future wife, fellow musician and Hole lead singer Courtney Love. A user uploaded the video on YouTube.
As Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl would not be joining the band until later that year, the Melvin's Dale Crover played drums during the performance.
The recording is 55 minutes long and features popular Nirvana songs "Polly," "Negative Creep," "Been a Son," and "Breed," and it starts and ends with "Scoff" and "Blew," respectively.
"I was there. I recorded their set. And I put it away in a box of tapes," says a YouTube user with the handle WY97212, who uploaded the recording.
"Today marks the 25th year anniversary and it seems like the right time to let people hear this. Enjoy and Play Loud. Recording is raw in accordance with the equipment and tape used at the time," the user said.
The details provided by the user have not been confirmed, according to SPIN, but the magazine notes that the dates are consistent with the band's chronology. Nirvana indeed played a show on January 12, 1990 and Willamette Week has provided a poster for the show, where Crover's group the Melvins and Portland band the Oily Bloodmen are also listed as acts.
At one point in the show, Cobain met Love, who quipped that the frontman looked like Soul Asylum lead singer Dave Pirner, as documented in Charles R. Cross's "Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurty Cobain."
The songs Nirvana played during the show are as follows:
1. "Scoff"
2. "Floyd The Barber"
3. "Love Buzz"
4. "Dive"
5. "Polly"
6. "Big Cheese"
