Gina Rodriguez, 30, won her first Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical for her performance on the CW series "Jane The Virgin," in which she plays the title role.
"Thank you, God, for making me an artist," Rodriguez said as she tearfully accepted the award, which was presented by "Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston and "Scandal" star Kerry Washington.
Rodriguez added that the award was so much more than herself as it "represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes." She beat "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Orange Is The New Black" star Taylor Schilling, "Girls" star Lena Dunham and "Nurse Jacki" star Edie Falco.
Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards was held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, People reported.
