"America's Next Top Model" alum Renee Diane Alway, 28, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and was ordered to pay over $58,000 in restitution to the victims after she pleaded guilty several criminal charges, Desert Sun reported.
Among the charges were one count each of vehicle theft, illegal firearm possession, identity theft and four burglary counts.
According to court documents, Alway admitted to stealing a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CL600 sedan, possessing a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun, stealing a woman's personal information, and breaking into Calle Tranquillo, Juanita Drive, Tanger Court and Toledo Avenue houses between June 21-26, 2013.
Since her arrest on June 28, 2013, Alway has been in custody with a $150,000 bail. This was six years after she finished third on the eight cycle of "ANTM," which was won by Jaslene Gonzalez.
Recently, "ANTM" was also involved in a legal controversy when its former contestant Angelea Preston sued Tyra Banks for $3 million claiming she won the 17th cycle of the CW reality show in 2011 but was disqualified because of her past as an escort.
Preston said she was entitled to the top prize that included a Vogue Italia fashion spread and a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics but the CW said they are "confident that her lawsuit has no merit," Perez Hilton reported.
Meanwhile, "ANTM" has just concluded its 21st cycle, which was won by its first ever male winner Keith Carlos, 28.
In a recent interview with the Sister 2 Sister magazine, Carlos describe himself "very aggressive" and attributed it to his athletic background. He played as a football wide receiver with Philadelphia Eagles in 2011 and with New York Giants in 2013.
"With football, you use that aggression on the field. With modeling, you get frustrated. You get rattled. You cannot do that," Carlos explained.
"Taking my aggressive nature and using that toward my photos was hard," he added.
