Kathie Lee Gifford has opened up about an instance when embattled comedian Bill Cosby tried to kiss her, Us Weekly reports.
"I will admit, toward the very, very end of the last time I saw him, he did try to kiss me," the 61-year-old television host-actress said on Tuesday, during the Dec. 26 episode of the "Today" show.
"I said, 'No.' I said, 'Bill, we're friends.' He said, 'Okay, goodnight,' and I said, 'Goodnight,'" she went on to gush about her recollection of her rather awkward experience with Cosby back in the 1970s, when both of them were touring. "And I went into my room, and he went into his room."
Despite that incident, Gifford has maintained her friendship with Cosby, who is currently under fire for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting more than a dozen of women, including high-profile models Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson, among others.
Gifford talked about Cosby when co-host Hoda Kotb brought up the issue regarding the iconic comedian's wife Camille's statements, maintaining that her husband is not guilty and that the media should verify facts before they publish stories, according to Fox News.
Gifford, who is well-known for "Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee," also noted that she is not at all confirming the accusations of Bill Cosby's alleged victims to be true.
"I'm not saying the women's allegations are not true. I'm just saying I never personally saw it with my own two eyes," she said.
"I along with so many Americans and people around the world don't want these (accusations) to be true," she quipped.
"But I'm not saying that the women are liars," she added. "From my own personal experience, it didn't happen. A lot of married men come onto single women, but once I said, 'No, absolutely not,' he respected it."
Kathie Lee also revealed that she was stunned when she found out Johnson's claim that the embattled comedian drugged her cappuccino. For one thing, when her backup singers opened for Bill, the latter would brew some coffee for her after the show, Yahoo! TV has learned.
"I do know, I got a chill, because every night when we'd come off stage and Bill would be going onstage, he would have made cappuccinos for all three of us," she said. "I always thought it was such a kindness and so sweet... I just don't want it to be true."
The accusations against the 77-year-old stand-up performer date back from the 1960s. His lawyer continues to insist that there is no truth in any of them.
