Avril Lavigne has revealed via Twitter that she is suffering from undisclosed "health issues", and has even asked a fan to pray for her, according to Billboard.

The 30-year-old singer had reportedly exchanged messages last weekend with "@AvrilMusicChart", a fan account on Twitter, who had asked her about her two-year absence from the industry, inquiring whether the singer was "in the studio" or working on a project.

Lavigne had replied via direct message, "I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans... why I've been absent." The singer then added, "I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."

The fan account had also posted screenshots of the conversation with Lavigne.

Fans had then started posting their well-wishes for the singer, using the hashtag #PrayforAvril. A representative for Lavigne had confirmed the legitimacy of the posted DMs between the singer and @AvrilMusicChart, reports MTV, but did not reveal more information regarding the illness.

The singer had been performing live since August this year in Japan, according to her official Facebook page. Lavigne had married Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger last year, but were rumored to be having marital problems just three months ago.

Kroeger, however, had denied they were having problems with their marriage, saying he finds the rumors "amusing".

Avril Lavigne released a self-titled album last month, and had endured backlash for her single, "Hello Kitty", which prompted allegations of racism upon its release. YouTube and VEVO were eventually forced to take down the music video for the song amidst the controversy, reportss EntertainmentWise.

According to Maitri Mehta of Bustle.com, the "Hello Kitty" song was "rampant with racist under and overtones," and called it a "trainwreck."

"If you want to make horrible music, go right ahead, but don't embarrass yourself by setting your songs in a Disneyland, cotton-candy fantasy you have of a culture you don't understand," said Mehta.
