Stephen King's "It" will finally be adapted for the big screen and award-winning director Cary Fukunaga will be taking on the reins for this undertaking.
Fukunaga, who won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing (Drama) for "True Detective," is set to helm the film adaptation of the 1986 best-selling horror novel, Vulture confirmed.
Producer Dan Lin confirmed the 37-year-old director's involvement with the movie, revealing that filming would begin in March 2015, according to the entertainment site.
“The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot," Lin revealed.
According to the producer, Fukunaga has been working on the project for a while now.
"Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we've been with this for about three or four years, so we're super excited that he stayed with it," Lin told Vulture. "You guys are gonna be really excited."
Author Stephen King has apparently greenlit the big screen adaptation and Lin confirmed that the 1,100-page novel will have to be divided into two films.
“We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.’ So that was really gratifying.”
"The book is so epic that we couldn't tell it all in one movie and service the characters with enough depth," he said.
Lin also revealed that the first film will be a coming-of-age story about the children tormented by It, while the second will skip ahead in time as those same characters band together to continue the fight as adults.
This isn't the first time "It" has been adapted. The novel, which centers on the story of an evil being that hunts children by taking the form of a clown, was turned into an ABC TV mini-series in 1990 starring Tim Curry, John Ritter and Annette O'Toole, Entertainment Weekly noted.
Fukunaga has been working on one project after the other following his successful stint on the director's chair for the first eight episodes of "True Detective" Season 1.
The director has just wrapped up filming for his latest movie, "Beasts of No Nation," the big screen adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala's 2005 novel, New York Daily News reported.
