The 24-year-old "India's Raw Star" junior artist who attacked host Gauhar Khan has explained why he slapped the actor-model on stage during the final episode of the show at studio number 9 at Film City in Goregaon.
"Girls wearing short clothes damage the brains of youngsters," Akil Malik told the police upon his arrest adding that these girls wearing scanty clothes force youngster to commit crimes, First Post reported.
Malik also told Mid-Day that he was "sexually attracted" to women wearing short skirts and he slapped Khan "to teach her a lesson." He had been working for three days on the set of the singing competition, which Khan hosts and singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh mentors.
Before 250 security guards deployed there and 2,500 audience members, Malik slapped Khan and inappropriately touched her during the break of "India's Raw Star."
One "India's Raw Star" finalist and another member of the production team beat up Malik after the incident before the security guards intervened and handed the attacker over to the Aarey Sub police.
The Aarey Sub police station senior inspector Vilas Chavan told Hindustan Times they will "record Khan's statement in detail" and will register a case under Indian Penal Code's section 323 and 354, which are voluntary infliction of hurt and assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Another Aarey police officer said "a preliminary probe has revealed that someone from the audience started teasing Khan to which she protested. An argument ensued between Gauahar and the man who was teasing her."
Meanwhile, several Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to express their reaction to the incident.
"Dearest natural selection, please help us out-evolve morons like the one who slapped Gauhar Khan. Sincerely..." director, actor and singer Farhan Akhtar also wrote.
Actress and model Mini Mathur described the attack against Khan as "absolutely disgusting" in her tweet while producer, director and scriptwriter Madhur Bhandarkar described it in his tweet as "disgusting and highly condemnable."
Aside from hosting, Khan also pursues modelling and acting. In 2013, she won the Indian television reality series "Bigg Boss 7."
