Taylor Swift is making waves on the Billboard charts as her album "1989" continues to top the Billboard 200 charts, while her latest album single "Black Space" climbs to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, Ace Showbiz reported.
Nielsen SoundScan has released their tally and Swift's fourth studio album, "1989," continues to reign at the top of the Billboard 200 charts. This makes it Swift's third consecutive week as No. 1 after selling an additional 312,000 copies this week, and makes "1989" the second album of the year to spend three weeks at the top spot after the official soundtrack album of the 2013 movie, "Frozen."
"Black Space," on the other hand, which is Swift's second single off the album, replaced the first single, "Shake It Off," as No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Swift has become the first female artist in the chart's history to dethrone herself from the top slot.
Swift's "Blank Space" climbed from No. 14 to No. 1 after the release of its official music video in Nov. 10, according to Billboard.
The song is the pop singer's third song to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 charts following "Shake It Off" and 2012's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." It's 13-1 jump from No. 14 to the top was also the biggest jump since Miley Cyrus' 22-1 for the song "Wrecking Ball."
Swift succeeding herself at the No. 1 spot not only makes her the first female artist to do so, but also the 10th act overall in the history of the charts. She follows after musical acts such as Boyz II Men, the Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Ja Rule, and The Beatles, who managed three chart-topping songs in a row in 1964.
Swift bested other new releases on the album chart, according to Reuters.
"Sonic Highways" by the Foo Fighters was at No. 2 with 190,000 copies sold, while "Endless River" by Pink Floyd lands at No. 3 with 170,000 copies. Country singer Garth Brooks released "Man Against Machine," his first album in 13 years, and sold 130,000 copies. "Cadillactica" by Big K.R.I.T pops up at No. 5 with 44,000 copies sold.
