Following Chanel's crystal fantasy, Alexander McQueen exhibited a futuristic fantasy in its Fall/Winter 2012 Collection during Paris Fashion Week.
McQueen's runway was filled with voluminous dresses in bold colors, heavy ruffles and feather details. Models strolled down the catwalk wearing bulky black sunglasses as the show unveiled a magic of blossoming, or rather exploding, from mini skirts to dandelion heads embroidered onto dresses, and eventually to full-volume dresses and coats - using goat fur, ostrich feather and Mongolian lamb.
After the brand's founder passed away, the new creative director Sarah Burton has been making bold fashion statements through her creations each season, pushing boundaries and challenging the definition of beauty.
“The future's usually shown as stark and cold. I wanted lightness, the sense that the dresses were hovering," the British designer said of the latest collection.
“It’s hard to even put into words the impact that these garments have,” Linda Fargo, Bergdorf Goodman fashion director, told The Star. “They almost look like gorgeously shorn poodles.”
“Sarah Burton is such an enormous talent!”
