Jennifer Lopez had been in a relationship with Ojani Noah, Sean Combs and Cris Judd before getting engaged to Ben Affleck in 2002, but she had no idea what true heartbreak was until she broke up with the "Gone Girl" star in 2004.

In a new interview with Maria Shriver, set to air on the "Today" show on Nov. 3 and 4, the 45-year-old "American Idol" judge opened up about how difficult it was for her to split from Affleck.

The "I Luh Ya Papi" singer was promoting her new memoir "True Love" when Shriver commented on how fast the "Maid in Manhattan" actress was to wed her long-time friend Marc Anthony after her broken engagement to the "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice" actor. Lopez tied the knot with Anthony in June 2004 - just six months after she and Affleck broke up, according to Rolling Stone.

"Right, you're absolutely right," Lopez told Shriver, as quoted by Us Weekly. "It was probably my first big heartbreak, and to have one of my best friends who I'd known for years, who I actually love and did have chemistry with, come into my life and say, 'I'm here'...What you need to know is, nobody can save you or heal you, only you can do that for you."

In an interview with Meredith Viera for her talk show, set to air on Nov. 3, Lopez admitted that she was easily swept up in the excitement of a new romance, but she has already learned that it was not always a good thing.

"As cool as it is in the beginning, it has to sustain beyond that," she said of her ideal romance, as quoted by Us Weekly. "And be something that has a real basis to it and can go beyond just that beginning honeymoon phase."

Unfortunately, her relationship with Anthony did not go that way, even though they were blessed with twins Max and Emme, 6.

"I had waited so long to have kids and I finally did," she told Vieira."[But] I'm realizing, 'Oh my god. This is not right.'"

"It took a long time, and a long time of both of us doing the best we could and trying the hardest we could because we had kids and because we loved each other -- and we still do," she explained. "At the end of the day when I said [it wasn't right], I kind of wished he'd been like, 'No way.' But he knew it too, and he was like, 'Okay'...and that's what happened."

Anthony filed for divorce from Lopez in April 2012, and it was finalized in June 2014, the Los Angeles Times reported.
