Being a single mom, Katie Holmes has admitted that she often relies on the help of others.
Aside from the assistance she is getting from her own "ready and willing" mother, Kathleen, and a nanny, the 35-year-old "Batman Begins" actress told People that she has "girlfriends of all ages, who have children of all ages," on whom she leans for support.
That help has come in handy lately, as the mother of one has been busy with a number of projects including Karen Leigh Hopkins's upcoming drama film "Miss Meadows" (out Nov. 14) and the impending Reelz Channel's miniseries "The Kennedys: After Camelot," in which she will reprise her role as Jackie Kennedy.
"So I do have help, yes, but it's your baby, you know?" Holmes told the celebrity and entertainment magazine. "You want to be the one who is there."
Just like most mothers, the Toledo, Ohio-born actress said that she is also having moments of self-doubt as a parent from time to time.
"Am I enough? Am I doing enough? Have I seen her enough?" she told People of the questions she faces while raising her and Tom Cruise's now 8-year-old daughter, Suri. "Guess what? You're not enough, she hasn't seen you enough, you're horrible: That's how it can feel sometimes."
But according to her, seeking reassurance from fellow mothers is the best way to reduce, if not eliminate, self-criticism.
"You really need to support each other, help people through whatever it is they're going through - whether it's 'My kid just threw a tantrum' or 'I was late for graduation' or whatever it is, you know!" she said.
"I think we all need to just ease up," she added. "Ease up on the expectations, and the worrying. We're all trying to do the best we can."
Holmes and Cruise were married in a Scientology ceremony at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy in November 2006, Toledo Blade reported. But after five years of marriage, Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise.
Attorneys for the actors announced that that the pair had signed a divorce settlement in July 2012, CNN reported.
