YouTube released its app for Sony's PlayStation 4 Tuesday along with the PlayStation 4's new 2.0 system update, Venture Beat reported.
The new YouTube app available on PS4 now allows gamers to film and then upload videos on the progress of their gameplay through a SharePlay function. By pressing the Share button on the DualShock 4 controller, users can directly post videos from their PS4 console to YouTube.
Gamers can also view the videos uploaded by their PlayStation Network friends in the "What's New" section of their PS4, according to PlayStation's official blog.
The new YouTube app also lets users watch 1080p videos and listen to improved 5.1 channel audio. Logging into their YouTube accounts will also let gamers like, share and comment on videos and access subscribed channels, playlists and favorites.
Sony also delivers major updates to the PS4 with their v2.00 system update, the CNET reported. Along with the YouTube and SharePlay function, the new software allows users to access a series of voice commands to direct their consoles via the included wired headset, a different but compatible headset or a PS4 camera.
Sony has also improved its live streaming capabilities, now allowing users to add a custom message for viewers accessing their SharePlay videos. Users can also tweak their videos through the camera video settings.
USB sticks with audio files can also be plugged in and played through the Music Player app. They also repainted the interface to give it a cleaner look and revamped it to allow users to add custom themes or change the background colors to their liking.
"This is the biggest update we've delivered to date for PS4," Scott McCarthy, director of product planning and software innovation, said through a post on PlayStation's official blog.
"This has been an amazing first year for PS4 so far, with more than 10 million units sold and a robust set of new features already added including SHAREfactory, automatic pre-download, and more," McCarthy said. "We are pleased to see the great feedback we've been getting from fans like you, which helps us to make PS4 the best place to play."
A YouTube app has been a long time coming. Sony's consoles have enabled users to upload videos to Facebook and post screenshots on Twitter so adding YouTube to its features is bound to be exciting for PS4 fans.
Interested users can download the new app from the PlayStation store.
