Iconic pop star Whitney Houston died at the age of 48, marking the saddest news on the eve of the Grammy Awards.

The singer's death was confirmed by her publicist Saturday night.

The world's once-best selling artist's career in the music as well as the film industry was overshadowed when she admitted to the rumors of using drugs at an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2009.

Houston's battles with drugs and alcohol marred the six-time Grammy winner as she went through a dramatic divorce from R&B singer Bobby Brown.

"The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy," Houston said in an infamous interview in 2002.

Houston's modeling career began in the early 1980s when a photographer spotted her singing at Carnegie Hall.
She was always stylish on the red carpet, never failing to stay classic and elegant.
