Sony is reportedly planning to launch a new line of games in order to enhance the social experience of gaming through its PlayStation 4 virtual reality (VR) headset, the Project Morpheus.
Dave Ranyard, the director of Sony Computer Electronics' London Studio revealed to Digital Spy that the company wants to create interactive games for its VR device.
"Look at our studio - we've done a lot of social games," he said. "That's something we really want to bring to VR. We made the EyeToy games, like 'EyeToy Play' and there was a point with those, before they were released, when the team realized actually we like watching people do this is almost as fun as doing it."
"Having that social screen is really important to us," Ranyard added. "There's actually quiate a lot you can do with that. We've been doing lots of companion apps as well - you can interact, you can see what they're seeing - you can imagine that with a haunted house, and you can totally see it."
For now, Project Morpheus' demo games such as "Street Luge" and "The Deep" only show off to the public what the device can do and what the future of gaming will be like.
Ranyard noted that Sony is still not yet sure when it will be able to market the device to the market, Game Spot reported.
"[Morpheus is] still a prototype, we don't have a date on hardware," the director explained. "We're very pleased with some of the things that we've done, so it would be lovely to get out there to an even bigger audience that the people that just go to shows."
Despite not having a release date yet, Shuhei Yoshida, the leader of the Morpheus' development team, confirmed that Sony has already completed about 85% of the work needed to market the VR headset, according to Wall Street Journal.
