Industry observers are expecting Apple to release its new iPad lineup in another special event on October 16, according to tech website Re/Code.
A newer version of Apple's 9.7-inch iPad is expected to be unveiled, along with a new iPad Mini. Apple is also expected to launch a new iMac lineup with ultra high-resolution retina displays, plus their new operating system, OS X Yosemite.
John Paczkowski says in his Re/Code article that the upcoming event "will be a more laid-back affair held at the company's Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, without any mysterious white structures and awkward one-song concerts."
The news come from a source who has asked not to be named, says Bloomberg, particularly because Apple has not made any official announcement yet regarding the event or the launch of new devices.
Adam Satariano of Bloomberg says in his article that Apple needs iPad sales "to diminish its reliance on the iPhone, which now makes up about half its revenue and the bulk of its profits."
"The company is facing slowing sales for iPads as the tablet market matures, with lower-cost models gaining popularity and people upgrading less frequently than smartphones. IPad sales, which generated $32 billion in revenue for Apple in its last fiscal year, have declined for two consecutive quarters," Satariano adds.
The October 16 event is forecasted to be held at Apple's Town Hall auditorium, according to Tech Times. The new devices are rumored to feature the Apple Pay system, as well as Touch ID fingerprint sensors.
However, the new iPads will "most likely not have an NFC chip, as it will be awkward to be holding up a tablet to a payment terminal," writes Aaron Mamiit of Tech Times.
Mamiit adds, "Apple CEO Tim Cook is optimistic that the sales for the tablet will pick up due to the partnership that was entered into by Apple with IBM for enterprise usage, introducing new iPads before the holiday season will also help increase sales."
