Before the release of the film "Big Eyes," sales of Margaret Keane paintings soared, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Recently, the 87-year-old artist's framed prints, lithographs and paintings are being sold on eBay and the online sales have significantly increased.
Directed by Tim Burton and written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, "Big Eyes" is about the life of Keane and her husband Walter.
Set in the 1950s, the story of the movie revolves around their marriage and partnership broken when the wife accused the husband of taking the credit for her work, which brought them to a legal battle, Indie Wire reported.
The couple are played by two-time Oscar-winning "Django Unchained" actor Christoph Waltz and five-time Oscar-nominated "American Hustle" actress Amy Adams.
"I admire Walter Keane for his marketing. For being able to sustain that scam for so long and how he managed to climb the ladder from literally the bottom. I am not completely against him at all," Waltz told USA Today about his character.
As for Adams' character, Waltz said, "She was part of it. She knew that changes everything."
In the 1960s and 1970s, Keane's paintngs of wide-eyed children became popular. The paintings have been patronized by Hollywood collectors since then.
Among those Keane painted were Kim Novak, Jerry Lewis, Natalie Wood, Robert Wagner and Joan Crawford.
Most of Keane's notable works will be seen in "Big Eyes," which will hit theaters in the United States on Dec. 25.
"Burton also owns an extensive collection of her work," Are Keane's paintings a good invest-ment? If you'd had a chance to buy an original Andy Warhol for $15,000 or $20,000, would you have?" San Francisco' Keane Eyes Gallery representative Robert L. Brown said.
Joining Waltz and Adams in the "Big Eyes" cast are Krysten Ritter, Jason Schwartzman, Danny Huston, Terence Stamp, Stephanie Bennett, Heather Doerksen, Andrew Airlie, Jon Polito, Elisabetta Fantone, Emily Fonda, James Saito, Vanessa Ross and Steven Wiig among others.
