"Parks and Recreation" Star Aubrey Plaza will lend her pipes to Grumpy Cat in Lifetime's upcoming live-action "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," The Hollywood Reporter reported.
"Glee" star Jane Lynch was reportedly in serious talks to voice Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, in the TV-movie but after she scored an Emmy on Aug. 16 for outstanding reality host for "Hollywood Game Night," she suddenly declined the offer, according to THR.
The flick was written by Jeff Morris and Tim Hill, the writer and storyboard artist for the 2004 animated film "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie."
It will follow the story of a young girl named Chrystal (Megan Charpentier) who befriends Grumpy Cat (also named as Tardar Sauce in the movie) after learning she is the only person who can hear it speak, Mashable reported.
On Christmas Eve, Chrystal rescues Tardar Sauce after the mall closes, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"It brings fun and irreverence that we haven't had at Lifetime," Arturo Interian, the cable company's vice president for original movies, said about the film in a statement in June. "We're so known for our heartfelt sentimentality that it will poke fun at those stereotypes."
Interian added that his teenage daughters, who are big fans of Grumpy, were the ones who gave him the first idea for the movie.
The movie will be "a little 'Home Alone' and a little 'Die Hard,'" as described by Interian. And though the film will put Grumpy Cat on the spotlight, Lifetime said the film will also feature cameos from other popular Internet memes.
Ben Lashes, Grumpy Cat's manager, said the cable channel is the "perfect venue" for the two-year-old cat that currently lives with his owner, Tabatha Bundesen, in Arizona.
"When I go home for Christmas, there are movies that we always watch," added Lashes who also serves as the manager of other Internet memes including Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat. "It becomes a tradition. I like that aspect of Christmas movies."
With Lashes' huge help, many of Grumpy's YouTube videos have already reached more than a million hits. The cat, whose permanently grumpy-looking face is due to feline dwarfism, has its own line of T-shirts, calendars, gift wrap and even a best-selling book which is now available in 14 languages, the Associated Press reported.
"Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever" will premiere on Lifetime Saturday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
