Nicki Minaj allegedly approached officials at her former high school, LaGuardia Arts High School, and offered to make an appearance as a surprise for the students but she was turned down.
Minaj took her thoughts to Twitter and said, "I wanted to go back to my HS and speak to the students but the new principal declined. No need for me to inspire them, I guess. Smh."
In another tweet, Minaj wrote, "That school changed my life and I wanted to pay it forward to the students there now. I was really looking forward to it."
Minaj's revelations shocked millions of her fans to the point that most of them even bashed and questioned LaGuardia Arts High School's decision, according to SMH.
Now, officials from the school have expressed the real reason why they rejected Minaj's offer and clarified that they only said she couldn't give a talk at the school if she will be bringing her camera crew with her, Eurweb reported.
"It has been brought to our attention that Nicki Minaj is attempting to generate publicity for herself by posting negative information about our principal, Dr. Lisa Mars, and LaGuardia Arts High School. The fact is that Ms. Minaj was told by the NYC Department of Education (DOE) that she would not be allowed to enter the school with a television crew. The DOE has policies in place to protect the privacy and security of all of its students. I'm sure we all appreciate this strict enforcement of these policies with regard to the safety of our children."
Meanwhile, Hempstead Board of Education president Lamont Johnson has since reached out to Minaj and has invited the "Anaconda" singer to speak at their high school instead, CBS News noted.
"Hempstead School District, which has had some recent hardships, feels it would be a boost to their students. We have several challenges and I want our children to believe and feel that they have a chance. I think she's a person that's shown that she didn't forget where she's from and I think Hempstead schools are similar to the area that she came from," Johnson said.
