Mindy Kaling has recently admitted that her "The Office" co-star and former boyfriend B.J. Novak is her greatest love to date.
Howard Stern interviewed the 35-year-old "The Mindy Project" actress Monday, Sept. 15, on his radio program "The Howard Stern Show," and asked, "Have you had a great love in your life that it just hurts that it didn't work out?"
Kaling answered in the affirmative and named that "great love" of her as Novak.
Kaling and Novak dated on and off while writing and acting on "The Office" sometimes mirroring the on-again, off-again nature of the relationship between their characters, Ryan Howard and Kelly Kapoor, according to Oh No They Didn't.
As for why they split, Kaling said, "It's not profound, but people are so different and you can overlap in certain ways that are important, but not the ones that are the most important," noting that it was actually Novak who broke up with her.
Kaling admitted that she was "so sad" when they split. "Not angry, sad," she clarified. "That was the hottest I've ever looked because I stopped eating. When I get depressed I stop eating. So I was so miserable and so beautiful. I remember waking up, barely getting out of bed and we worked together but I didn't care. I had no makeup on...I was real miserable."
Stern then asked if Novak was the best sex she has ever had. "It was pretty damn good," Kaling replied. "Real good. He's a smart and funny guy."
And when asked if she would have married the man if he proposed when they were together, she responded, "At the time? Oh yeah. I was 24. For the record if anyone asked me to marry me I would have said yes."
But despite Stern's insistence, the actress claimed that she no longer thinks of Novak romantically."I love him and I think he's a great person but I'm not holding a candle for B.J.," she said of her ex, whom she now called as her "best friend."
"The Mindy Project" was renewed for a third season on March 7 for 15 episodes, according to Vulture. Season 3 will premiere today, Tuesday, Sept. 16.
