Daniele Watts was handcuffed and detained by two police officers from Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Thursday, Sept. 11, after allegedly being mistaken for a prostitute.
Watts, best known for her role as Coco in "Django Unchained" told BuzzFeed that she met up with his boyfriend Brian Lucas (better known as celebrity chef Cheffy BeLive), who was in a parked car near CBS' Studio City production facility, right after she had just dropped off a friend at a diversity showcase.
"I sat on his lap in the front seat of the car and we start making out," Watts said. But a man from a nearby office came out and asked the two to "stop putting on a show." Though they were fully clothed and only kissing, they stopped anyway, the actress said.
A few moments later, two policemen arrived and asked the couple for their IDs. Lucas complied but Watts refused to give hers claiming that the cops had no right to do so. She was then handcuffed and detained.
"From the questions that he asked me as D [Daniele] was already on her phone with her dad, I could tell that whoever called on us (including the officers), saw a tatted RAWKer white boy and a hot bootie shorted black girl and thought we were a HO (prostitute) & a TRICK (client)," wrote Lucas in a Facebook post.
Lucas also noted on his post that police officers cut Watts' wrist while handcuffing her.
The LAPD confirmed to New York Daily News that it detained Watts and Lucas around 3:00 p.m., saying that officers were only responding to a 911 call complaining of "indecent exposure" by two people in a silver Mercedes.
"There was an indication on the radio call that a male white and female black were involved in a sexual act inside a Mercedes with the vehicle door open," Officer Sally Madera told CNN. "Two people were briefly detained, but it was revealed no crime had been committed."
Watts quickly took to Facebook to address the incident, writing, "Today I exist with courage, knowing that I am blessed to have experienced what I did today. All of those feelings, no matter how uncomfortable. These feelings are what builds my internal strength, my ability to grow through WHATEVER may happen to me."
Watts and Lucas have already contacted their lawyers regarding the matter.
