Someone will not come back to Beacon Hills when "Teen Wolf" returns for its fifth season next year, at least, according to Holland Roden, who plays Lydia in the hit MTV supernatural series.
"You're going to have to tune in for season five to see if we're all coming back or not. That's just the reality," Roden told Hollywood Life while at backstage at New York Fashion Week.
"[Derek] (Tyler Hoechlin) walked off into the sunset, and he could easily wake up the next morning and go get Starbucks," the 27-year-old actress teased. "Or Lydia could have magically have joined Jackson (Colton Haynes) in London. We don't know."
"It's sort of a toss up of who is not coming back for season five, but somebody is not coming back for season five," she revealed.
Since the show's season 4 finale, some fans have begun to speculate that Chris Argent (J.R. Bourne) may no longer come back next season. During the last few minutes of the episode "Smoke and Mirrors," Chris bid his farewell to Scott (Tyler Posey), telling him that he made a pact with the Calaveras to hunt his sister Kate, and in return, the Mexican family of werewolf hunters would no longer bother the teenage alpha and his pack.
In an interview with TVLine, series' executive producer Russell Mulcahy was asked if that scene signaled the end of the Argents' saga, and he answered: "I wouldn't say that. Right from the beginning, our mantra was sexy, scary and surprising and I think all doors remain open [for anyone to return]. All things are possible in 'Teen Wolf.'"
Showrunner Jeff Davis also talked about that goodbye scene between Chris and Scott in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and when asked if Chris' decision to join the Calaveras means fans can expect the character to appear more or less in Season 5, he said, "We'll see. Next season is very much up in the air."
"And to be honest, getting through this season was such an unbelievable challenge that we're glad to just have a break and not think anymore and wait for new ideas to come to us," he added. "So we're trying not to talk too much about season 5 until we actually sit back in the writers' room and get to it."
Last July, MTV renewed "Teen Wolf" for a 20-episode fifth season which, like the third season, will be split into two parts.
