Mitch Winehouse, the father of the late British singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, has revealed that his family is discussing a possible biopic with film executives about his daughter.
Mitch, who is also a jazz singer, said that if the film project pushes through, it will have to be different and might even have a fantasy element to it, according to Mirror.
In an interview held at the launch of his new charity album "But Beautiful," Mitch said, "It all depends on what the definition of a biopic is. You have got Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, you pick them out and put Amy in, it's exactly the same," the singer told Mirror.
"The rise, the fall, the rise, the unfortunate outcome, whatever. It's the same," Mitch said. "The idea is, if we do a film, we want to do something different," he continued.
The singer said the film may be "a fantasy type thing, interwoven with the things that were actually going on."
"We're looking at a number of options, but I can't give too much away," he disclosed.
Mitch said his family has been wooed by movie executives about making the film. The family, however, has time and again changed their mind regarding the project.
American pop superstar Lady Gaga showed interest in portraying Amy almost as soon as rumors of creating an Amy Winehouse biopic surfaced in 2011, according to NME. Amy died of alcohol poisoning in that year at the age 27.
In the interview, Mitch said, "If we do a movie, and it's a big if, it won't be a biopic in a biopic sense. Lady Gaga said she wanted to play Amy, but I'd like to hear her do the accent. It's that East End, Jewish, cockney..."
Although known for her pop songs and sensibilities, Lady Gaga has performed jazz pieces in her career. She has worked with jazz stalwart Tony Bennett, who has also recorded with Amy.
